About the event
Bashar had a flair for fashion and a love for design. Having participated in the MAAFA at St. Paul Community Baptist Church, under Bishop Johnny Ray Youngblood, he developed a curiosity for the African continent. An awareness awakened in him from dancing and drumming African rhythms, which also inspired the sound heard in his music. Pop is one of two first generation American children born of Jamaican and Panamanian parentage. He possessed a unique aesthetic which created a posh fusion of high end hip hop street style influenced by his Jamanian American heritage.
This year’s gala will include fashions from hand picked designers who will be given an opportunity to work with the family to create a capsule and his clothing lines, Black Smoke and Bashar B. Jackson NYC. The evening will Include a fashion show, live entertainment, tapas and a DJ.
Featuring associated brands and Black Smoke "Shukrani"
Founded by Audrey Jackson, mother of the late Bashar “Pop Smoke” Jackson, Black Smoke is more than fashion—it is a movement. Built to honor Pop Smoke’s enduring legacy, the brand reflects his Brooklyn-born resilience, bold aesthetic, and global cultural impact. Since its inception, Black Smoke has empowered young creatives through fashion showcases, international collaborations, and educational initiatives.
“Shukrani,” the Swahili word for gratitude, represents a new evolution in the Black Smoke narrative. Under the direction of Creative Director Javier Valencia, this year’s capsule collection captures the duality of Pop Smoke’s presence: bright ambition by day, fearless innovation by night.
